Heather Cronemiller, MA, LICSW
Heather has been providing mental health services for over a decade and has helped clients overcome a wide spectrum of issues; from those experiencing acute crises to dealing with daily stressors and life transitions. She has also worked in a variety of different settings, including an outpatient mental health center, a hospital, and the Department of Corrections. Heather specializes in treating clients who have experienced complex trauma. Drawing from her lived experiences, she is particularly interested in providing care for foster care and adoptive families and families of at-risk youth. Her other areas of expertise include treating people experiencing mood disorders, anxiety, substance use disorders, psychotic disorders, and Borderline Personality Disorder. She is very excited for the opportunity to work with Shaffer Professional Services clients!
Throughout my education, employment, and personal life I have a deep understanding of what trauma can do to a person and, in turn, affect their loved ones. I also know strategies and techniques to help them rise above their trauma and live the life they want. I have a special interest in working with individuals who have committed infidelity or couples that are working their way through a betrayal.
While Heather tailors each person’s therapy to the unique needs and goals of each client, her primary therapeutic interventions come from mindfulness based practices and cognitive behavioral principles. She works hard to ensure that the therapeutic environment is one of non-judgment and support while challenging the client to meet their goals. Clients often hear her say, “I’m here to help you explore your options but ultimately you are the expert of your life and you get to choose which path you travel”.
